About the artist: – Born and raised on Canada’s west coast, Canadian artist Brian Eccles makes his home in Oak Bay on Vancouver Island. Recently retired from a career in fisheries and forestry Brian is now able to concentrate his energy on artful endeavors, working out of his island based studio. As a craftsperson and artist, he is mostly self-taught and has been influenced by his natural surroundings and travels through Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Brian has worked as a potter for many years concentrating his efforts on developing a skill set in primitive firing techniques that included Raku work as well as working with firings in clamp kilns and beach fires. Some of his pottery work can be seen in the pottery Gallery link on this website.
In the last few years Brian has added silversmithing to his mix of interests and is currently working on a number of projects including the creation of unique sterling silver and gold jewelry pieces, utilizing organic and the lost wax casting methods. Brian’s artwork has been displayed in several solo and group shows on Haida Gwaii, Prince Rupert, Vancouver, and Sooke on Vancouver Island. Brian’s work has also been shown in two provincial Festival of the Arts exhibitions. Brian’s silver work is displayed for sale in local retail outlets along the coast and here online.
