Brian
has been working with tiles for more than 15 years
incorporating his screen printing and design expertise to work
up various patterns based on his original art work. His fish
and Fossil tiles are direct images captured though a Gyotaku
Japanese fish printing process that captures the original fish
or fossil form using sepia ink and rice paper. Images are photo
reduced and placed on a silk screen frame for printing. Brian
uses ceramic inks and glazes which are fired in an electric
kiln to a temperature of 850 degrees C. The tiles that are
prepared as trivets are attached to blocks of Red Alder wood
that has been harvested locally. The series of tiles and trivets
continue to be updated as new images are created. The Haida
Gwaii Green tree frog being the latest in the current series.
